YET WE PERSISTED

Military generals, I mean four star

Governors, assembly women, we have come far

Mayors, council women, deans of schools too

Network owners, franchise creators, and oh, I’m not through

Astronauts, Olympic winners, entrepreneurs aren’t rare

Pilots and doctors, you’ll find women there

Homemakers making out e-commerce rich

Women can’t be stopped, no, we’re not having it

Not too long ago, none of this existed

Look at us now!

Never the less we persisted

We’ve come a long way, it took blood, strength and time

On top of the shoulders, of great women we climbed,

Couldn’t vote, go to college, at home and demeaned

In no political office, was a woman seen

The military, we couldn’t join, told we’re not strong

Look at us now, boy where they wrong

Often-times doing twice the work of a man,

Training our supervisors, again, and again

Doing the same work, yet getting less pay

That glass ceiling still exists, yet till this day

As we pass the baton, daughter come in tight fisted

And they’ll break that barrier,

Never the less we persisted

We work harder, were smarter, we pasted every test

Stayed later, worked weekends, we’re good, better, best

Passed over for promotion, excuses made why,

It’s blatant and obvious, because we’re not a guy

We’re frustrated, we’re gut wrenched, and we’re mad as heck

God’s got something better, and this we expect

Our mentees are discouraged, when they see what we face

Our daughters will struggle, on our backs as we brace

As we push them forward, their voices are lifted

And they will say loudly!

Never the less we persisted

There is something about a woman that won’t be denied,

The strength that we muster, to push all aside

To fight for what’s right, and to champion our cause

Equal pay, equal rights, and it’s not for applause

There are so many single mothers, yet it’s women who will

Take care of the parents, the kids and the bills

Made to do more, just to get what we’re due

And it’s all coming out in the cry of, “Me Too!”

We won’t be denied, ignored or resisted,

When that door closes, we’re coming two fisted

And we’ll break it down!

Never the less we persisted
